November 5, 2019 | Celen Ebru Paytoncular

The Entertainment and Media industry has totally transformed over the past decade, with cable and traditional TV being replaced by streaming and on-demand services and the rise of new technologies such as VR.

The entertainment and media industry is at the coal face of user demand, with the sector having been transformed by innovations such as streaming, social media and mobile. When dealing with an impatient and knowledgeable consumer, ensuring that your products are personalised, relevant, and user friendly is vital.

PwC's 'Global Media and Entertainment Outlook' report projects industry revenue will reach $792.3 billion by 2022, up from $666.9 billion since 2017, with the fastest growing revenue generators during this period being augmented and virtual reality, over-the-top video, and internet advertising.

The augmented and virtual reality market is forecasted to expand drastically over the next five years and is set to surpass $160 billion by 2023. Although VR gaming is the main driver of revenue, there are several uses outside of the entertainment and media industry. VR is being adopted for several other uses, such as workforce training, therapy treatments and surgical training in the NHS, and in manufacturing industries, such as aerospace and construction.
