Svava Bjarnadóttir, Tech Lead, Picnic Technologies
As tech becomes a bigger and more integral part of our lives, it is imperative that the people making decisions about it represent the people using it. Women are 50% of the population, but in Europe they occupy only around 5% of the executive positions and 11% of the managerial positions in tech. If we want technology to improve equality rather than worsen it, we need to understand what obstacles are currently preventing women from obtaining these positions, and how to remove them.
In this session Svava Bjarnadóttir dicusses why is tech leadership such a male-dominated space, even more than tech in general? And what should companies do about it? Exploring how, rather than seeing gender inequality as a "glass ceiling" that women have to break through, the path to leadership is more like a labyrinth. There are many ways to navigate the labyrinth, and there are obstacles along the way. This session explains what actions companies can do to support women through this journey, but also what they can do to help them once they reach their goals.
